11 Important Questions To Ask When Choosing A Day Care Center

dsc_1313

Choosing a day care center for your child is an important decision. This is not a decision that should be made on the spur of the moment, nor is it a decision that should be taken lightly.

Make sure the center is a safe and nurturing place where your child will learn. Good child care centers encourage children to grow and learn physically, emotionally and intellectually. Good child care is not just babysitting.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Will I feel comfortable leaving my child in this center?
  2. What are drop off and pick-up procedures?
  3. What types of fees are involved?
  4. What are the policies regarding medication?
  5. What is the child-to-adult ratio?
  6. Can I visit my child at any time?
  7. Is the atmosphere one that encourages growth and development?
  8. Are the children supervised at all times?
  9. Is there a handbook stating all policies and procedures?
  10. What supplies are needed?
  11. What kind of security does the site have?

Visit the site and see for yourself in which classroom your child will be placed. Meet and talk to the staff members. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions. Make sure the center is properly licensed and take the time to review the last inspection report. Inquire about staff criminal and child abuse/maltreatment background checks.
